Why vijay malya is called as DR.vijay malaya .Is he PHD?

The south Indians have certain fancy of putting some degrees .Mr Mallya may have got some honourary degree which are given toeminent personalities byrt no one puts them with their name. there are many people who gets Phd but still dont use Dr word. but look at vijay mallya or jaylalita or karunanidhi all are putting Dr before their name. Indira gandhi has ben honoured with doctorate by all the universities where she visited but she never put it.
